What an ordeal. I've been ALMOST in your shoes, simply astounded by the legal system, healthcare system, labor laws, taxes...yet most of all this series is enjoyable for the simple elegance of your writing.
The one consistent thing I can say about Portugal is that it will surprise you. In both positive and negative ways, it will always surprise you. Absolutely nothing here has gone according to my expectations and preconceived notions 😆
Ah, the preference right-my, we have that in Slovenia, my parents almost bought a house once when I was a child, but the preference right resulted into it becoming no longer available, so we continued to live in an apartment.
As a realtor of 29 years this gives me nightmares!!
But wait, there's more! 😆
This is the best explanation of this madness I've heard.
I think I’m relieved to hear that! 😅

Thank you so much, Susan! ❤️

What an ordeal! There is a lot about Portuguese real estate laws that are quite cumbersome, and risky! Thanks for the heads-up, though.
Thanks Bob – yes, it can be very old world here, which is sometimes charming, and sometimes not so charming 😆
Oh my goodness. I thought the bureaucracy in Mexico was ridiculous. This is insane lol.
And I'm not even finished yet! 😆
The whole foot is all yours now ?? Beautiful plot of land 😉😍
Thanks Rose, I'm glad you can tell that from my sketch.
Once in a while, I wonder if someone from the past will knock on my door and say I can't be living here. But so far, everything seems to be fine.
How frustrating! But it worked out, so I guess all's well that ends well. And it makes a great story!
Thanks, Leslie!
It's not quite over yet, there are still a few more surprises 😉
Even better!!

I'm glad we don't have that in the US, what a mess that would be!
