What an ordeal. I've been ALMOST in your shoes, simply astounded by the legal system, healthcare system, labor laws, taxes...yet most of all this series is enjoyable for the simple elegance of your writing.

The one consistent thing I can say about Portugal is that it will surprise you. In both positive and negative ways, it will always surprise you. Absolutely nothing here has gone according to my expectations and preconceived notions 😆

Ah, the preference right-my, we have that in Slovenia, my parents almost bought a house once when I was a child, but the preference right resulted into it becoming no longer available, so we continued to live in an apartment.
